CARE HOMES

Helen Jones, Derbyshire council’s head of adult social care, stated:

‘Current guidance is clear that the current expectation of the Government is that hospital patients will be required to have a test for Coronavirus prior to being discharged, but that people can be discharged to a home pending the test result.’

A council spokesman said that although the council would require test results before patients were moved to any of its care homes, nevertheless, the council would be prepared to ‘free up hospital beds’ by accepting those infected with Covid-19.

Covid-19 deaths in care homes in England and Wales increased by 36 per cent in the week to 24 April, to a total of 2,794 fatalities. Then there are all the other deaths where Covid-19 had not been diagnosed.

Words fail.
