BREXIT OR BRINO

In Turbo Brexit: And the Case Against Brino, I wrote:

‘It is the commitment to political correctness and globalization that is the root of the failure to achieve Brexit … The British public are being lied to. It is as if they are being presented with an overweight and particularly craggy male pensioner in drag trying to pass himself off as Lolita, a 16-year-old schoolgirl wearing red high heels, laddered stockings, a miniskirt, no knickers, two tennis balls stuffed into a low-cut bra, layers of heavy make-up, with a beehive, peroxide wig plonked on top. Such an apparition might appeal to some, but it will not fool the voters.’ (Turbo Brexit: And the Case Against Brino, page 89)

It would now seem that Boris Johnson’s Brexit strategy is to stuff some paper tissues into the low-cut bra to augment the tennis balls to create, he believes, an appealing vision.

Boris Johnson, far from planning on getting the UK out of the EU on the 31 October, with or without a deal, is intending on trying to pass off a minor tweak to the May deal, that the House of Commons has repeatedly rejected, as being the basis for his offer to the EU and as being a genuine Brexit. Boris Johnson enjoys the support not only of the Tory pro-Brexit ERG but also the so-called Tory Spartans, who have resiliently voted against the May Government’s proposed EU treaty.

If the Tories actually think that they can con the voters to the extent that Boris Johnson thinks he can con the Tory Party, they would be well-advised to think again.
